A  DOUBLE TRIUMPH

A VERY historic ceremony took place in May, No! Not the Royal Wedding at Windsor, this took place in the Grand Temple at Freemason’s Hall, Great Queen Street. There was a very special double Initiation ceremony at the May meeting of the Queensman Lodge No. 2694. Two holders of the Victoria Cross where initiated into the Lodge, Bro. Johnson Beharry VC, PWRR and Bro. Daniel Keighran VC, RAR in front of almost 1000 Brethren from provinces around the country, there were a retinue of Provincial Grand Officers from many  Provinces and also RWBro. Simon d’O Duckworth OBE DL PJGW, Deputy Metropolitan Grand Master.

There was a buzz of expectation in the Temple and the atmosphere was electric when the two Initiates were escorted into the Lodge. Those present were very aware that they were witnessing an historic event that will probably never be repeated again in Freemasonry.

The ceremony was conducted by the newly installed Worshipful Master W.Bro K. Midmore in a very able manner. The Ancient Charge was delivered by Bro. R. Mooney in a sincere and expressive delivery, which draw applause from the Brethren. And the First Degree Working Tools were presented by Bro. A Graf van Thun und Hohenstein, the first time he had delivered any ritual in the Lodge and considering it was not his first language it was excellent. And finally the Charter of the Lodge was delivered to the Master by IPM W.Bro. R. Heathfield PGStdB.

The evening concluded with an enjoyable Festive Board in The Grand Connaught Rooms.
